Birgit is Research & Development Manager at The Woolmark Company, based in Italy. She is a textile engineer, with a unique position in the fashion industry: her key focus is supporting brands and designers sourcing wool, and she has been integral in the development of The Wool Lab, the capstone sourcing and forecasting guide that enables diverse wool sourcing opportunities.

Her recent innovation projects include performance-driven Merino wool sailing uniforms for the Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli America’s Cup team, digital print developments with Come For Breakfast and Ratti, the tailored wool knit collection with Shima Seiki that reduces waste, and Wool Grilon, a collaboration with Süedwolle to create an abrasion resistant and anti-pilling performance blend fibre.
